Spring is the time of year all gardeners look forward to, when plants begin to bloom and the garden comes alive again. At Armitage’s, the garden centres welcome spring by filling the outdoor plant area with new plants and ideas to spruce up your garden up for summer. We all begin to get excited about new life in the garden, so why not come along and speak to our friendly team about how you should approach jobs in the garden in spring.
As the ground starts to thaw and colour returns to the garden, you’ll want to spend more time outdoors. In order to get the garden ready, there are a number of jobs that need to be done. Head outdoors and remove those last remaining autumn and winter leaves, clear debris and define lawn edges to ensure your garden is looking neat and fresh for the summer.
Spring is also the time to make weeding a priority, begin sowing seeds and pruning your roses. Summer bedding needs to be prepared, so dig the planting site and work in compost. However, ensure you wait until the last traces of frost have disappeared before planting out the beds. Now is also the time to start planting flowering bulbs so flowerbeds are blooming when summer arrives.
As your pond will have been neglected during the winter months, spring is the perfect time to clean out the debris. Our first delivery of freshwater fish arrives in the spring so you can find some new species to stock up your pond.
Spring is also the perfect time to plant a vegetable garden, meaning that when summer arrives you will have an abundance of vegetables for your summer salads. Growing your own produce is all the rage at the moment and vegetable gardens are not only enormously rewarding, but they also help cut the cost of healthy eating and ensure that your produce is free from additives. Why not get your children interested in healthy eating by encouraging them to plant up their own mini vegetable garden .
