Planting

* The selection and inclusion of plants in your garden can make the difference between having something to delight and inspire throughout the year or just having a green patch. By choosing the right plants and placing them in the right sections of the garden will create a garden of real character unique to you.

By introducing a wide variety of different plants into your garden, you can watch how its personality changes throughout the year. A mix of evergreen and deciduous plants, as well as early and late flowering plants, will give your garden varied focal points as the seasons change.

Autumn is nature’s natural time for gardening, and is the season in which you should really commit yourself to caring for your garden. As summer’s blooms start to fade, you can begin to look to the following year and your future visions for the garden. Replant dull beds or add new features, such as an alpine rock garden or a herb corner. By considering and putting in the hard work early, when the sun starts to break through the clouds next spring you’ll really be able to see the fruits of your labour.

Planting schemes can be a wonderful way of unifying your garden, and working out which plants work best and where will ensure that you can use your space to the maximum effect. Planting schemes really allow you to add impact to your outdoor space, and you can really let loose and think of some ideas to theme sections of your garden. Why not try a tropical border of fiery red and orange foliage and flowers to attract the eye or create a cottage garden, allowing perennials and annuals to thrive together.

If you’re not sure how to approach planting schemes, but are thinking about adding one to your garden, why not talk to one of our plant-area specialists in store. They’ll all be happy to share the secrets of their own gardens, and can offer some top tips on how to create the perfect planting arrangement.

Container gardening is also a wonderful way of adding colour and shape to your garden, and if space is limited baskets and pots can revitalise your outdoor space. We have a range of ideas in store, so whether you want to tackle container gardening yourself and just need the tools, or want to use Armitage’s expert advice to take home some bespoke plant pots, why not pop in and talk to our staff.
