Container Gardening is a great way of making optimum use of space in your garden, allowing you to be flexible in moving pots around and disguising eyesores. A stylish pot with the right selection of flowers will look great on a patio or balcony area, and hanging baskets can be a great way of adding colour to the outside of your house. In store you'll find an extensive range of pots and containers which can be either pre-planted or planted up in store. Whether you want something to add colour to a small patio, or want a large tub to add real feature value to the garden, you'll find choice and ideas at Armitage's. The staff at Armitage’s have a wide range of suggestions to help you make the most of the tubs and pots in you garden, and our expert advice should ensure that you can design an attractive and eye-catching plant display. Why not have a look at the following advice for some hints as to how to optimise your garden displays:
• Always use fresh compost. Old compost can harbour pests and diseases and will have a lower nutrient content. Specialist tub and basket compost contains water retaining granules and some slow release fertiliser so it is ideal for hanging baskets and smaller containers.
• Don’t forget to keep your containers well watered. In warm or dry and windy conditions your planted containers may need watering every day.
• Keep feeding your containers with good liquid feed. This will prolong the flowering time for your summer colour plants. A slow release fertiliser will keep bedding flowering all summer.
• Make sure you turn your containers every few days so the sunlight can reach all the plants.
• As the flowers begin to die back remove them as soon as possible. This will encourage more flowers as the plant is not using its energy for seed production.
