Creating a lush lawn is harder than it seems, and maintaining that perfect look is a demanding job. Whether you’re starting from scratch or just need to look after the one you already have, Armitage’s have both the tools and the expert advice needed to help you get started.
If you’re creating a new lawn it’s best to start in Spring or early Autumn. Measure the area precisely and then mark it out. Remove any weeds and old grass, and make sure there are no large stones in the way. Add a balanced fertiliser as well as some compost or manure, and let this settle for a couple of weeks. Rake over the ground to level it, and then tread the ground to ensure a flat surface, rake again to create as fine, crumbly and even surface as you can. Seeds are the cheapest way of growing a lawn, but beware of the amount of time it will take before the lawn is fully operational. Laying turf is an alternative for a lower maintenance approach.
All lawns need watering frequently, especially if they are new or you live in a dry area. Your lawn will need mowing from the beginning of spring until the weather gets frosty, but avoid mowing when the grass is wet or during a drought. Weeds either need to be dug out or treated chemically during spring and summer gives you the perfect opportunity to aerate your lawn by creating drainage channels with a fork.
In addition, Armitage’s have all the necessary products to ensure your lawn can survive the British weather. Regularly treating your grass with moss and weedkiller will ensure it looks as green as possible, and we also have a range of spreaders to make light work of the process.
If your lawnmower needs servicing before you bring it out for the summer, why not bring it into our service centre and we can make sure it’s fully functional and in top condition for the months ahead.
